Dinghy Sailing at Bewl Water

Dinghy sailing 04

Ever fancied being the captain of you own boat? Feeling the wind fill your sail, steering across the water and discovering just how fast a little dinghy can go?

Welcome to dinghy sailing at Bewl Water — where adventure, fresh air and a little bit of friendly competition come together.

Whether you’re 8 or 80, completely new to sailing or already dreaming of your next adventure on the water, there’s something special about learning to sail.

And at The Foiling Collective, we think it’s even better when you give it a go yourself.

Small boat. Big Adventures.

There’s a moment every new sailor remembers.

You’ve climbed into the boat, worked out which rope does what (more or less!), caught the wind in your sail and suddenly realised… I’m actually doing this.

The boat starts moving. You steer. You adjust your sail. You figure out how to turn around without getting tangled up. Before long, you’re making your own decisions, finding your rhythm and exploring the water under your own power.

Dinghy sailing isn’t just about learning knots and remembering nautical words. It’s about having fun, trying something new and discovering what you’re capable of.

And yes, getting a little wet is all part of the fun.

For the kids: ditch the screens, grab the tiller

Dinghy sailing 01

If you’re between 8 and 14, sailing is a brilliant skill to have.

You get to drive your own boat, race your mates, learn to harness the wind and take on challenges that are different every time you head out.

Some days it’s all about speed. Other days it’s about mastering a tricky turn, sailing in a new direction or simply staying upright when the wind picks up.

You’ll build confidence without even realising it, learn to think on your feet and discover that getting things wrong is just part of getting better.

And unlike a video game, there’s no reset button. The wind changes, the water moves, and you’re right there in the middle of it all.

Best of all? You don’t need to arrive knowing anything about sailing. Everyone starts somewhere.

For the parents: it’s more than just time on the water

Finding activities that get children outdoors, moving and genuinely excited to learn something new isn’t always easy.

Dinghy sailing ticks a lot of boxes.

It encourages independence, problem-solving, decision-making and teamwork. Children learn to read the conditions around them, adapt when things don’t go to plan and build confidence through real, hands-on experience.

They also get to spend time outdoors, away from screens, developing a skill they can enjoy for years to come.

And here’s the best bit: sailing doesn’t have to be something you simply drop the kids off to do.

It’s a sport that adults can learn from scratch, return to after years away, or enjoy alongside their children. You might arrive thinking you’re there for them and leave wondering when you can get out on the water yourself.

There’s no age limit on discovering something new.

What’s special about sailing at Bewl Water? It’s the ideal place to learn with its calm waters and beautiful surroundings of the Kent and Sussex countryside all around. It’s the perfect place to escape the everyday, breathe in some fresh air and see the world from a different perspective.

Out on the water, you’re watching the wind, looking for the best course and learning to work with the conditions rather than against them. Every session brings something different, which is exactly what makes sailing so rewarding.

With an experienced instructor from The Foiling Collective on the water to show you the ropes, offer guidance and support you as you go, you can build your confidence at your own pace.

Bewl Water is a brilliant setting to develop your skills, challenge yourself and discover a new favourite way to spend your time outdoors.

Never sailed before? Perfect.

You don’t need your own boat, years of experience or a wardrobe full of sailing gear to get started.

Just curiosity and willingness to give it a go.

With the right instruction and support, beginners can build their skills step by step, getting comfortable on the water and learning how to sail safely as confidence grows.

And if you have sailed before? There’s always more to learn, more to explore and another challenge waiting around the corner.

At The Foiling Collective, we’re passionate about getting more people out on the water and helping them discover just how rewarding sailing can be.

Because you never know where that first session might lead.

Maybe you’re an 8-year-old who wants to try something exciting. Maybe you’re a teenager looking for your next challenge. Maybe you’re a parent who’s secretly always wanted to learn.

Or maybe you’re a family looking for something you can enjoy together.

Whoever you are, there’s a boat with your name on it.

Come and discover dinghy sailing at Bewl Water with The Foiling Collective. Learn a new skill, meet like-minded people and find out what happens when you let the wind take you somewhere new.

How to Install Your RSPro Rail Savers

    Dry Installation — Recommended Method

Dry install is the go-to method recommended. It’s fast, clean, and if done correctly, guarantees a long-lasting result.

    Dry Installation – YouTube

Wet Installation — A Great Option for Some Users

While we usually suggest the dry method, there are a few cases where wet installation can be a better fit—especially for beginners or boards with delicate coatings.

    Wet Installation – YouTube

Let’s break them down step-by-step below.

How to Install RSPro Rail Savers — Dry Method

Best for: Most users, most boards.

    Conditions: Do it in a warm space (above 20ºC / 68ºF). Ideally above 25ºC / 77ºF.

    Dry Method Steps:

    1. Warm things up

If the room is cold, gently warm the rail savers using a hairdryer or heat gun. Warmth makes the material more flexible and the adhesive more effective.

    2. Unroll and align

Place both bands loosely along each rail of your board to visualize placement.

    3. Mark the center

Use a pencil to mark the center of each band and the center of the board rail.

    4. Dry-fit the band

Without peeling the backing yet, align the center of the rail protector with your center mark on the board. Stretch it gently toward the nose and mark the starting point.

    5. Peel and stick

Begin peeling the backing from the front end of the rail saver. Press it down at your starting mark, sticking it along the outer edge of the board (this is where most impacts occur).

    6. Follow the rail

Keep the band aligned with the rail edge as you press down gradually along the length of the board. Use your hands, the integrated carton squeegee in the packaging or a soft cloth to apply pressure and remove any air bubbles.

    7. Final heat (optional)

For best adhesion, go over the installed rail savers with gentle heat once more and press firmly.

When to Use Wet Installation Instead

Best for: Fragile paint jobs, ultra-expensive or ultra-cheap boards, nervous first-timers, cold conditions.

Conditions: Ideal when you want more control over placement

What you’ll need: Clean water in a spray bottle, a soft squeegee or credit card, and patience.

    Wet Method Steps:

    1. Spray lightly

Mist clean water directly onto the rail of your board. Don’t soak it—just a light layer will do.

    2. Place the band

Peel the backing and apply the rail saver to the wet surface. The moisture allows you to slide and reposition it without committing right away.

    3. Adjust placement

Once you’re happy with the positioning, hold it in place and start removing the water underneath using a soft squeegee or similar tool.

    4. Let it dry

Leave the board in a warm, dry place. Any leftover water will evaporate within a few hours.

⚠️ Note: Avoid using harsh soaps or surfactants in the water—just clean water is enough.

How to service your Lift Efoil Motor

    Lip Seals and Oil Change

These instructions will walk you through the replacement of the two Lip seals and perform your own oil change.

Note: It will be easier to perform these repairs with the mast removed.

    Step 1
If the Lift LCS is installed, remove the prop. For a conventional prop, remove the center bolt, then pull out the propeller and pin (the pin may fall out, make sure not to lose it). If the propeller is jammed, you may try to: a. lightly tap on it, b. soak it in water for about an hour, or, c. use a prop remover.

    Step 2

Remove the four screws that connect the LCS base or shroud to the motor casing.  Slide out the LCS base or shroud.  Four replacement screws are provided.  Use NEW/provided Allen Wrenches to remove the screws.

    Step 3
Remove the Rotary Seal from the shroud or LCS base.  Use a sharp object is required.  Replace with provided Lip Seal, open side facing motor.

    EFS Oil change kit 3

    Step 4
Use a sharp object to remove Lip Seal from motor.  Remove and replace the compression O-Ring.

    EFS Oil change kit 4

    Step 5
Remove the drain fill screw and replace the O Ring.  Tilt the motor with the screw hole facing downward. Without the seal and screw, the oil should drain easily; While the drain hole faces down, twist and rotate the motor housing in a circular motion to help the oil accumulate at the opening. If the oil appears very milky, clean it using brake cleaner. Use the straw attachment on the brake cleaner can to spray up the drain hole and help flush out any contaminants.

    Step 6
Tilt the motor with the drain hole facing up.  Install the second Rotary Seal provided, open side facing prop.  Use syringe and thick needle provided to add oil to the motor.  You may need to use most or all of the oil.  The oil bottle provided contains slightly.  DO NOT OVERFILL.  If the oil reaches the top, remove about 5-10 ml using the syringe.

    EFS Oil change kit 1

    Step 7

    Reassemble in reverse order.

    Hover Wing Foil Board Size

Below is a rough guide to help determine Hover Wing Foil board size based on rider weight and skill level. A “beginner” rider is considered as someone with no previous board sport experience.

Keep in mind that additional factors, such as wind conditions, foil, and kite wing size will play an important role in the selection of the right board size.

As a rule of thumb, we recommend erring on the side of a more buoyant board with a volume that matches rider weight (for example, an 80kg rider will need at least an 80L board or larger). Riding a “sinker” will work in locations with steady, strong winds, while floatier boards prove to be a safer choice as they allow the rider to get back to shore even if the wind drops under a foilable limit.
