NORTH Sonar Stabiliser

£175.00

The NORTH Sonar S145v2 is designed to provide the fastest, loosest surfing feel. Its anhedral rondure loosens up the front wing in the roll axis, while the foil sections ensure predictability and a broad speed range.

Its moderate span creates an aspect ratio high enough for efficient pumping while remaining compact, with increased roll-ability for tighter and snappier turns. Recommended for use prone or tow surfing with smaller Front Wings, by intermediate to advanced riders seeking increased manoeuvrability and speed.

The S270 is your go-to for all round kite, wing and surf performance, offering optimal balance, speed, efficiency and control. Pair the S210 with a smaller front wing for high-speed performance and a more agile feel. Pair the S320 with a larger front wing for early planing, greater balance and stability.

Flat, loose and fast. The S238 Stabilizer is a high-performance upgrade to the Sonar Foil System for experienced riders. It has a higher aspect ratio than the S270, which means less drag, and the flatter rondure (front view) enables more manoeuvrability. The S238 is designed to match the new MA1200/MA1500 and larger HA front wings, giving your setup a faster and more responsive feel.  The North stabs are mounted on top of the fuselage, which helps them to avoid turbulence from the flow of the front wing, creating a smoother ride. This top mounting also gives the rider an early breach warning – the stab pierces the water surface first, giving you a better chance of recovery before your front wing gets too high.

Like the Front Wings, all Sonar Stabilizers are pre-preg carbon construction, ensuring optimal stiffness and direct performance. The thin profile section reduces drag, while the material properties help maintain structural integrity and rigidity.  Stabs have a huge influence on performance. As you progress to smaller wing sizes, we recommend changing to a smaller stabilizer to be more manoeuvrable. Experienced riders will really feel the difference. A new tail can have a big impact on your style.

The S142 has higher performance and is crazy fast and whippy. Your average rider may find it a little more advanced for pumping, but if you put in the energy, it will maintain glide. The S142 has enough holding power to take you right up to the DW1400, but we recommend the S192 for larger sizes.

Hover Wing Foil Board Size

Below is a rough guide to help determine Hover Wing Foil board size based on rider weight and skill level. A “beginner” rider is considered as someone with no previous board sport experience.

Keep in mind that additional factors, such as wind conditions, foil, and kite wing size will play an important role in the selection of the right board size.

As a rule of thumb, we recommend erring on the side of a more buoyant board with a volume that matches rider weight (for example, an 80kg rider will need at least an 80L board or larger). Riding a “sinker” will work in locations with steady, strong winds, while floatier boards prove to be a safer choice as they allow the rider to get back to shore even if the wind drops under a foilable limit.
